Threads App Takes the Internet by Storm with Over 100 Million Signups in Just Five Days

In a breathtaking feat, Instagram’s text-based app Threads has achieved a staggering milestone of over 100 million signups within a mere five days since its launch. This remarkable success was confirmed by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, who expressed his astonishment at the rapid growth of the app.

Threads’ Impressive Growth Trajectory and Future Prospects Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, the parent company of Instagram, had previously announced that Threads garnered 2 million signups within two hours, 5 million signups within four hours, and an impressive 10 million registered users within seven hours on its first day. By the following morning, the number of people signing up to explore the new app had surpassed the 30 million mark. It’s worth noting that Threads’ expansion is particularly notable as it has yet to launch in the European Union due to privacy concerns.

While OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot once held the distinction of being one of the fastest-growing consumer products, with 10 million daily users in 40 days and 100 million monthly users in nearly two months, Threads has surpassed these milestones within its very first month. However, the true challenge lies in retaining users and ensuring their continued engagement on the platform.

Shortcomings and Potential Impact Despite the influx of users flocking to Meta’s new text-focused social platform, Threads still lacks certain features. Notably, the app currently does not support ActivityPub, the protocol used for posts on decentralized networks. Meta has acknowledged this limitation and has expressed its commitment to working on incorporating this feature, emphasizing that the app will not be fully integrated into the fediverse until this integration is complete.

In addition, Threads currently lacks a read-only web interface, support for post search, direct messages, hashtags, and a “Following” feed. Furthermore, Instagram’s content guidelines strictly prohibit nudity on the platform, setting Threads apart from other Twitter alternatives like Bluesky, which adopt a more open approach.

Nevertheless, achieving over 100 million users in such a short span of time is an impressive accomplishment, signifying that Threads has firmly established its position and is poised for long-term success.

Industry experts are now eagerly observing how Threads will evolve and adapt to address the missing features while keeping its growing user base engaged. As the app continues to gain traction and demonstrate its potential, it is likely to shake up the social media landscape and present new opportunities for businesses and individuals alike.

“I’m amazed by the rapid growth of Threads and the overwhelming response from users. This milestone is a testament to the app’s appeal and the excitement it has generated in such a short period.”

– Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram
